Este tema pertenece al magistral Abraxas, segundo disco de la banda Santana y el que les dio el espaldarazo definitivo. 

Porque hubo un tiempo, a comienzos de los 70, en que Santana eran uno de los grupos que lideraban el cotarro. Miles Davis llegó a decir que eran la mejor banda. De hecho hay un tema de Miles que se titula Santana. 

La magistral mezcla de estilos, la calidad de sus integrantes y unos temas poderosos, como este que nos ocupa, crearon una de las bandas de rock más interesantes e inimitables que hayan existido. Tenían un directo apabullante, como ya demostraran en Woodstock o Tanglewood. 

En esta época Santana estaba formado por los siguientes músicos:

David Brown/bajo; Michael Shrieve/batería; Carlos Santana/guitarra; Gregg Rolie/teclados y voz; Rico Reyes/percusión y voz; Mike Carabello/percusión; José "Chepito" Areas/percusión.

En el disco al que pertenece este tema, Op Zop Too Wah, el genial músico toca todos los instrumentos, incluyendo la voz.

Reconocido por su labor como guitarrista de King Crimson (Discipline, Three of a Perfect Fair, Beat, Thrak, Space Groove...) también ha tocado con David Bowie, Frank Zappa, Nine Inch Nails o Talking Heads.

Actualmente, además de tocar con su Adrian Belew Power Trio (con Julie Slick y Tobias Ralph) al que tuve la suerte de ver hace un tiempo, forma parte del grupo Gizmodrome junto con Stewart Copeland, Mark King y Vittorio Cosma.

Touch Too Much - AC/DC

La primera vez que escuché este tema fue en la casa de un amigo, en un pueblo de Extremadura, que junto a otro amigo (ambos seguidores de AC/DC) me intentaban convencer de los méritos de la banda australiana/británica.

Y vaya si lo consiguieron. Conocía algún tema de ellos pero esta canción que pertenece al disco Highway to Hell y, todo sea dicho, no es muy representativa del estilo del grupo, me cautivó y aún lo sigue haciendo. Mi hermano fue comprando todos los discos de la primera época (hasta la muerte del cantante Bon Scott) y así conocí buena parte de la obra del travieso grupo.

La guitarra rítmica a cargo de Malcolm Young es impresionante  y el groove que aporta al tema es algo especial; riffs marca de la casa; la voz de Bon Scott; el solaco de Angus...

Pictures of Matchstick Men - Status Quo

Los inicios de la banda británica que todos conocemos fueron algo psicodélicos y ligados al movimiento beat, como se puede apreciar en el tema que nos ocupa.

 Lanzado en el año 1968 como single de su primer disco Picturesque Matchstickable Messages from the Status Quo se convirtió rápidamente en un éxito a ambos lados del atlántico y situó a la banda en una posición cómoda para poder seguir trabajando.

Jerry Lee Lewis

El pasado día 28 falleció Jerry Lee Lewis, uno de los pioneros del Rock´n Roll y el último representante que quedaba vivo. 

Nacido en un lejano 1935 y siempre respaldado por su característico piano, fue uno de los protagonistas indiscutibles del movimiento. Censurado habitualmente por sus provocaciones, como el contenido sexual en las letras, y por sus actuaciones incendiarias (nunca mejor dicho pues llegó a prender fuego a un piano), fue apodado como The Killer. Un poco salvaje si que era.

Tras un matrimonio con una niña (13 años) mucho más joven que él (22 años) su carrera sufrió un duro revés del que no se recuperaría jamás y se dedicó a la música country con razonable éxito.

A finales de los 80 hubo un revival importante de su figura gracias a la película Great Balls of Fire.
