Spare Parts - Bruce Springsteen

Canción con un sonido netamente americano que interpreta el tipo de la voz ronca y rasgada. Perteneciente al álbum Tunnel of Love, el primero tras el éxito de Born in the USA y que incluye temas populares como Brilliant Disguise, Tougher than the Rest o la misma Tunnel of Love que da título al disco. 

Como anécdota me gustaría comentar que Springsteen decidió prescindir de la E-Street Band como acompañantes oficiales (aunque participaran ocasionalmente en algunas canciones) y buena parte de la percusión está creada con una caja de ritmos.

Este vinilo lo compré con mi hermano cuando teníamos unos 13 o 14 años. Recuerdo que tuvimos la genial idea de grabarlo en cinta para después decirle al tipo de la tienda que lo teníamos repetido y nos lo cambiara por otro. 2 x 1. El dependiente nos dijo que trajéramos el repetido y nos lo cambiaba. Y eso no ocurrió, claro.

Me acabo de enterar del fallecimiento de Christine McVie, pilar indiscutible en la transición que hizo Fleetwood Mac del blues/rock al pop. O de las islas británicas a Estados Unidos. 

Algunos de los más grandes éxitos del grupo británico/americano fueron compuestos por ella, que en algunas ocasiones también los cantaba. Entre sus muchas canciones que me gustan, me quedo con esta.

Hope You're Feeling Better - Santana

Este tema pertenece al magistral Abraxas, segundo disco de la banda Santana y el que les dio el espaldarazo definitivo. 

Porque hubo un tiempo, a comienzos de los 70, en que Santana eran uno de los grupos que lideraban el cotarro. Miles Davis llegó a decir que eran la mejor banda. De hecho hay un tema de Miles que se titula Santana. 

La magistral mezcla de estilos, la calidad de sus integrantes y unos temas poderosos, como este que nos ocupa, crearon una de las bandas de rock más interesantes e inimitables que hayan existido. Tenían un directo apabullante, como ya demostraran en Woodstock o Tanglewood. 

En esta época Santana estaba formado por los siguientes músicos:

David Brown/bajo; Michael Shrieve/batería; Carlos Santana/guitarra; Gregg Rolie/teclados y voz; Rico Reyes/percusión y voz; Mike Carabello/percusión; José "Chepito" Areas/percusión.

En el disco al que pertenece este tema, Op Zop Too Wah, el genial músico toca todos los instrumentos, incluyendo la voz.

Reconocido por su labor como guitarrista de King Crimson (Discipline, Three of a Perfect Fair, Beat, Thrak, Space Groove...) también ha tocado con David Bowie, Frank Zappa, Nine Inch Nails o Talking Heads.

Actualmente, además de tocar con su Adrian Belew Power Trio (con Julie Slick y Tobias Ralph) al que tuve la suerte de ver hace un tiempo, forma parte del grupo Gizmodrome junto con Stewart Copeland, Mark King y Vittorio Cosma.

Touch Too Much - AC/DC

La primera vez que escuché este tema fue en la casa de un amigo, en un pueblo de Extremadura, que junto a otro amigo (ambos seguidores de AC/DC) me intentaban convencer de los méritos de la banda australiana/británica.

Y vaya si lo consiguieron. Conocía algún tema de ellos pero esta canción que pertenece al disco Highway to Hell y, todo sea dicho, no es muy representativa del estilo del grupo, me cautivó y aún lo sigue haciendo. Mi hermano fue comprando todos los discos de la primera época (hasta la muerte del cantante Bon Scott) y así conocí buena parte de la obra del travieso grupo.

La guitarra rítmica a cargo de Malcolm Young es impresionante  y el groove que aporta al tema es algo especial; riffs marca de la casa; la voz de Bon Scott; el solaco de Angus...

Los inicios de la banda británica que todos conocemos fueron algo psicodélicos y ligados al movimiento beat, como se puede apreciar en el tema que nos ocupa.

 Lanzado en el año 1968 como single de su primer disco Picturesque Matchstickable Messages from the Status Quo se convirtió rápidamente en un éxito a ambos lados del atlántico y situó a la banda en una posición cómoda para poder seguir trabajando.

Jerry Lee Lewis

El pasado día 28 falleció Jerry Lee Lewis, uno de los pioneros del Rock´n Roll y el último representante que quedaba vivo. 

Nacido en un lejano 1935 y siempre respaldado por su característico piano, fue uno de los protagonistas indiscutibles del movimiento. Censurado habitualmente por sus provocaciones, como el contenido sexual en las letras, y por sus actuaciones incendiarias (nunca mejor dicho pues llegó a prender fuego a un piano), fue apodado como The Killer. Un poco salvaje si que era.

Tras un matrimonio con una niña (13 años) mucho más joven que él (22 años) su carrera sufrió un duro revés del que no se recuperaría jamás y se dedicó a la música country con razonable éxito.

A finales de los 80 hubo un revival importante de su figura gracias a la película Great Balls of Fire.

Uno de los clásicos del grupo británico, originario de Manchester, que contiene una buena dosis de humor negro, tragedia y algo de romanticismo marca de la casa.

Es seguro que en el pop no hay nada mejor que un buen estribillo y este es antológico, guiado por la voz del controvertido Morrisey quién participa en la composición junto al guitarrista Johnny Marr quién también cultiva la faceta de músico de sesión y directos con gente como Pet Shop boys o Beck y ha formado parte de algunas bandas como The The, Electronic, Johnny Marr & The Healers y Modest Mouse.

Pero es que según iba viendo el vídeo y las mezclas que iban haciendo con otros temas de Chic, Stevie o los mismos Daft Punk, me quedaba aún más flipado.

Sería difícil no conocer algún tema de Moby debido a su omnipresencia en el final del pasado siglo y en los inicios del actual. De hecho es muy improbable no haberle escuchado en alguna ocasión porque sus canciones han sonado en un buen número de películas y anuncios.

Del álbum Play, anterior a este que nos ocupa, todos los temas fueron requeridos para diferentes campañas comerciales con la popularidad y el lucro que ello supone. 

La presente canción es la que abre el exitoso disco 18 (cuyas composiciones también sonaron en un buen número de anuncios y películas) y en el vídeo se pueden apreciar a algunos cuantos famosos como Corey Feldman, Dave Navarro, Sean Bean (que esta vez no muere) y algunos otros.

A mí me parece un temazo y en el disco hay otros cuantos bastante potentes como Extreme Ways con cuya música finaliza El caso Bourne (The Borne Identity).
