Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Elton John (with Kiki Dee)

Don't Go Breaking My Heart (Elton John & Kiki Dee) was a June 1976 non-album single – later appearing on Elton John’s Greatest Hits Volume II and subsequent compilations. The single, produced by Gus Dudgeon and recorded during the Blue Moves sessions in Toronto, became Elton’s first appearance at the top of the UK Singles chart and was his sixth #1 single in the US. It was #2 on the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles chart for 1976.
The video was shot in one take, using a three-camera setup, on an unused London soundstage by director Mike Mansfield, who was on loan from a music television special being taped in the same studio. During the song’s instrumental section, Elton attempts to teach Kiki a version of the “hand jive”, a 1950s dance that would find a resurgence of popularity with the release of the film Grease in 1978.

Don't go breaking my heart
I couldn't if I tried
Honey if I get restless
Baby you're not that kind

Don't go breaking my heart
You take the weight off me
Honey when you knock on my door
I gave you my key

Nobody knows it
When I was down
I was your clown
Nobody knows it
Right from the start
I gave you my heart
I gave you my heart

So don't go breaking my heart
I won't go breaking your heart
Don't go breaking my heart

And nobody told us
'Cause nobody showed us
And now it's up to us babe
I think we can make it

So don't misunderstand me
You put the light in my life
You put the sparks to the flame
I've got your heart in my sights
