The test - Chemical Brothers

En esta época (los 90) en la que junto a Chemical Brothers había otros grupos que daba la sensación que formaban parte de algún tipo de movimiento en el que la música electrónica se mezclaba con otros géneros y del que también formaban parte Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx o The Prodigy yo no presté mucha atención, pero era complicado mantenerse al margen porque sonaban mucho en los garitos y radios; y en las raves.

En mi caso, mi hermano si los escuchaba en casa y por eso estoy algo familiarizado con este tipo de música. Desde luego, en los 90 sonaban bastante novedosos y creo que afianzó la figura de los dj como creadores y productores musicales y no como meros pinchadiscos.

Aún hoy me sigue pareciendo que esta mezcla de loops, sintes, rock y algo más sigue sonando fresca y no cabe duda que este género, si es que puede llamarse así, creó tendencia y se hizo un hueco en la música popular.

Curioso y extraño tema perteneciente al musical Chess compuesto por Björn Ulvaeus y Benny Andersson, la mitad del grupo ABBA, e interpretado por Murray head.

El musical que fue todo un éxito, tiene como trasfondo el juego del ajedrez para contar una historia de amor. La canción fue número uno en muchos países y da la sensación que algo así únicamente podía haberse creado en los años 80 del pasado siglo.

Esto es un temazo como la copa de un pino (incluso a pesar de esa batería con demasiada reverb que se hace un poco pesada). 

Tras el éxito de su primer disco con Toy´s Soldiers, en su segunda y última publicación Martika volvió a lo más alto de las listas de éxitos con este single compuesto a medias con Prince y producido por el genio de Mineápolis; de hecho en esta grabación se escuchan unos coros que parecen cantados por él.

Desconozco porque no continuó con su carrera en solitario, pero tras su segundo disco tan sólo tiene algunas colaboraciones y composiciones para otros artistas y la creación de un grupo llamado Oppera que no tuvo apenas relevancia.

Speed of Sound - Coldplay

Hubo un tiempo en el que Coldplay gozaba de un status de nueva gran promesa del rock o pop/rock y su música estaba omnipresente en la radio y cualquier evento que se preciara.

Creo que parte de su éxito se debía a lo bien que encajaba su música con los conciertos masivos y, por supuesto, a la calidad de algunos de sus temas, principalmente los singles lanzados.

He de reconocer que en las primeras escuchas me recordaban mucho a U2: esa base rítmica poderosa y cíclica, guitarras atmosféricas, etc. Pero siendo justos, se han ganado a pulso su lugar en el olimpo rock.

Como muestra esta épica Speed of Sound.
